Nuggets on Storytelling

In story telling (fiction writing) know that your character is alive, don't try to make them, hear them.  It is a journey of discovery, even in your heart when you plot the storyline, you may plot the overview, the character takes you through the journey of what really happen. They let you discover.

Don't try to add.  Don't think the character should be this or that, or do this.  You'll trim your character, stiffen them and they'll not be able to tell you all of it, then you miss out.  So sit, listen.  Let them amaze you, provoke you, inspire you, guide you.  You'll be amazed.  And when you are done with your story, you won't only have been done with creating a new story, but you've experienced new stuff and discovered new routes.

Here's something shocking.... Many times my characters have first mentioned something as their dialogue intensifies and then it had struck me and I've gone to check it online and discovered that the character was in fact correct, very very very correct about what she said about it.
