Adichie breaks the silence. Set to release a new book Zikora!

Years after the release of the National Book Critic Circle Award Winning novel Americanah, the face of Africa's pride and jewel: leading voice in African literature and the host of Purple Hibiscus workshop, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is set to release a new short story on October 27th 2020. The story that centres around the pregnancy of the protagonist Zikora, shuttles between Nigeria and Washington DC promises to be another intriguing read, rapturous, educative and inspiring. We know that Adichie's novels are centred around amongst other things feminism. Either actively (like Americanah) or a tiny wave in the lines (like Half of a Yellow Sun) or outrightly passive (like Purple Hibiscus). I cannot but anticipate how feminism will play out in this new read, and the other stuff of interest the literary goddess and face of black African feminist icon will serve us. An Excerpt

Okay, I'd begun putting words together for my book... 'To My Unborn Kids', I just felt I should share these excerpt with you.... Someone stereotyped is worse than someone insane because the mad man over there is acting under the influence of mind loss, a stereotype has his mind intact, his brain functioning, yet agrees to despicable things, fights with his life to uphold it, and all the while they don't know the why for the action, how it began, why it is done, why it should or not be. These brainwashed fellows can go as far as lynching someone for not following that which they do, even if they don't know the why...... Before something becomes a universal definition, it must undergo thorough scrutiny before acceptance, but the norms of stereotypes cannot be scrutinized, they make no room for it, and fights who ever dares to. Only cowards do what others does without getting to know why it is done, and you my dear kids are no coward. Your actions...

Let me write about Miriam

Today I chose to write about Miriam. Miriam the daughter of Nana the shame of Jamil abi Jalil of Herat. I'll write because I set my eyes on the print edition of a painting, a painting of a woman staring into space which if you ask me I'll say emptiness and void, with the bright sun behind her a tree adjacent her and birds fly atop her hair but something spectacular is this woman didn't know any of this existed, she's just staring into the void and emptiness with a crack of smile. She makes me think of Miriam. The girl I am currently reading about in a Thousand Splendid Suns, a book that has the same pain and agony as Joys of Motherhood even though not bothered by the same thing. You see Miriam was the product of an affair Jamil has with his maid Nana. She's a hamari - a bastard - but she feels she isn't so because Jamil her father didn't make her feel so.
