IJEOMA (A POEM)

Ijeoma

With ear touching smile
with enthusiastic exuberance
with mouth that laugh out very loud.
With waist that sways in harmony
With hands that consoles and
Lips full of tales of marital bliss.

Let's talk about the red scars Ijeoma
The one your make up tries hard to cover
Because I saw you wincing
When your admirer your chin touched.
And even though your dress looks cheerful
the scars visible at your back seems to talk.

And before you laugh and hold my hand
And tell me how blessed you are having him
And before you with words so sweet
Flood my mind with sweet marital fantasies
Let's talk about that phone call you had that day crying
Ije di agwu wom ike.

The Display of public exuberance doesn't cover
Your tired worn out soul seeking deliverance
I know cause I can see through you.
Your eyes tells tales I can clearly read, your smile only reveals how deep the cut is, your feet carries you in its frailty and sorry when you held me, you palm did talk.

Ijeoma.
K'mgbe i ga hapu inye gae bu gi ba oso
When will you leave the do or die rant and see how precious your life is.
When will you stand up to the truth and save your body from all these bruise.
I know you strong, but this is not the survival of the fitest.
How in the world did you get to this point?

It's me!
