THE TWIST - EPISODE ONE

The loudspeaker's echoes around the neighborhood marked the beginning of church service for Mighty God Deliverance Ministry, located at the end of the street. The echoes followed by a resounding 'hallelujah' brought to life this church service whose building is made of stick.

"We have come again, we have come again, father we have come again, father we have come again Amen"
Echoed through the speaker, the baritone worship leader's voice followed by the voice of the congregation.  In their voice is a deep sense of desperation, like a reminder to God to fulfil that which he is delaying to fulfil.  This is how they gather every Thursday, from nine o'clock to six, sometimes seven, seeking the face of God, begging him to look upon them and answer their prayer. Their desperation so badly has consumed them that their worship sounded more like a war song than sweet melodies.

After series of petition filled worship, the prayer session began,  the prayer session is one of the session attendees looked forward to, a time they can twist the arms of God and have him look their direction and be fast with bringing answers.  A time, his angels were set on their feet as loud commands are issues followed by a sentence or two of what they felt was tongues.  Something like 'roboroboyogo hey'

"Brethren,  today is another day, today we shall posses our possession,  because the Bible say the kingdom of God suffers violence and except you are ready for a carry over, you will violently take your possession by force" Evangelist Nsikak,  a lanky looking man,  whose suit was more of a twentieth used coat and his tie sticking forward like a snake, life completely out of it.  The pink T-shirt he wore inside looked like a recently used battle field, and even his wary coat couldn't brace its frail look up.

"Every Saturday," continued Evangelist Niskak,  "Our mates are taking to their wives house, they are taken out of their Mothers house to become husbands, but us,  we are growing old at our mother's, soon our engine oil will lose its ability to produce our kind and no one at this point will look at us, but brothers, I don't know if you are tired of being single as I am,  I want you to pray with  all your might today.  Say Oh God my father, every black clothe covering my face, making me unattractive to women, every power keeping me in my mother's house whilst my mate are carried to their wives house, what are you waiting for?  Fall down and die!  Open your mouth and fire prayer" Nsikak roar, sending the church quaking with prayers of tired folks, who had entered a do-or-die mode in receiving their answers from God.

Amidst the congregation, were men with tears in their eyes, tired of being single whilst their ripe age pass them by,  some came with their point of contact,  a ring,  a coat,  anything to remind God they are tired of staying single and unfulfilled, and they will do anything to break the covenant of being single over their lives. Some clenched the air as though it was God's shirt, pulling aggressively as they prayed 'give me my own wife or I die', when zeal meets fervency, passion is rapidly produce and passion was very well present in this weary men who feels it's over for them,  and they are not fully human.

"don't allow me o, don't allow me, don't allow me Jesus to go emptyhanded" Nsikak raised an emotional worship, causing an outbreak of wail, floor rolling and sobbing in the auditorium, they lifted their tear filled tired faces as they sang their pitiable conditions to the one who gives wife.    Whilst some where looking for marital blessing, others where there because their marriage was at the verge of breaking up because of their inability to make their wives pregnant, and their father in-laws were threatening to give their wives away to another strong men who at a single meeting will cause their daughters to give birth to twins.  Some others were there to intercede for peace in their marriage,  their wives, horrible drunkards would come back late and beat lives out of them, after which will force them for their evening due, not minding the pains on their bodies.

In this category is Chijioke, if only his wife could see his pain and suffering to make the marriage work, if only his wife could respect him and know that he is also human.  They'll return from work exhausted and he'd be forced into the kitchen to cook for the family, whilst she sits on the couch flipping the channels, and laughing to herself over telemundo. She will beat him at every slight provocation,  and will not fail to remind him that she is the woman in the house.  Always threatening to send him back to his mother if he doesn't put more effort in pleasing her.  Can't she see he's breaking and the weight is too much for him?  Can't she see that he is visibly a shadow of the man she married?  But no, her egoistic self will puke and spit the food his tired hands cook on his face over saltiness or no taste of salt,  and after a long scold,  threaten to send him back to his father's house. "Look Chijioke, there's a thousand and one men out there who would do anything to bear my name, and have me as their wife.  If you are tired of doing what you are supposed to do, I will personally send you to your mother's house" She'll scowl at him,  giving him dirty slaps in the presence of his kids.  Countless times they had tried to stop the abuse, their tiny voice wails "Mummy don't beat daddy" he'll cry and cry, and wonder why his wife won't just love him.  What else could be the reason but an evil spirit.  Prophet Ugorji had seen his case last week and told him to embark on a seven days fast to break the chord the evil one is using to take the heart of his wife from him.  In this prayer segment, he must settle it too.

Yinka, the exact definition of frustration, would not leave whatever angel that came there that day to collect their request.  He's past forty, getting old in his mother's house,  they won't let him rent his own house,  "it's irresponsibility" his father will bark,  and yet they won't give up taunting him with the "when will you marry" question.  Prophet Ugorji has also placed him on a two weeks dry fasting,  he said the spirit showed him that not only was his face covered with black clothing, his enemies who had sworn he will decay in his mother's house had turned his face spiritually to a woman,  making him irritating to the women who would have married him. This evil yoke, Ugorji had said must be broken,  if he will get married, and the frustration his family dished to him made him wrestle for his life. He is the pioneer of the slang 'give me my wife or I die'.

"I will never let you go, unless you bless me, I will never let you go, unless you bless me" the downcasted congregants sang as prophet Ugorji took the microphone and gave them visions, calling out their specific case,  whilst they  burst into tears and wave. Their cases once called must be settled.
