In 2014 the USA began the Homosexuality awareness and acceptability campaign, beginning first from their nation, men and women took it upon themselves parading their naked self to buttress the intensity of this campaign, even though the nation had been one hostile to attitude of such, they won the USA in 2015, braving hate, injuries and death. The Supreme Court decreed it legal. In burning desire to share this view with the world and 'conquer' it, they began a worldwide campaign of homosexuality acceptance and endorsement this however met harsh reaction from nations some of which today are proud LGBT nations all of which includes India passing their resolution this 2018 declaring same sex practices not a criminal practise, and the early 2017 when the UK a formerly harsh-towards Gays nation with the queen stating firmly the conviction of the Kingdom on the subject embraced homosexuality under the guise of Alan Turing, releasing from prison all arrested in relations with this. And today the once death penalty anti LGBT nation has become home to homosexuality. USA taken, UK taken, INDIA taken! Failure to look at these countries and learn their errors will lead to a repeat of same in Nigeria.
Going through history, the level of same sex prohibition and hate in the United Kingdom is the most intense with gay men either castrated by chemicals or a chop off. This country which ones called it a sinful act, and shows great rejection had fallen to the homosexuality campaign and their Prime Minister now advocating for what was considered abominable in the nation.
Having said this much, let's look at Nigeria.
When the LGBT campaign got to the shore of Nigeria in 2014 it was met with outright rejection from the House of Assembly with David Mark the then speaker stating out rightly that's it is against the Bible and our culture, this statement followed a brutality towards gay people, ranging from lynching, mob, and stripping. Sending a NO signal to the USA, Nigeria like other West African nation like Ghana, Uganda etc some of which today are silent on the issue.
Of course something that met brutality and still does isn't supposed to raise concern except for the acceptance lingering around the country, the open condemnation of gay lynching by her citizens something which afore received applause. An infinix bill board was pulled down from the environs of University of Port Harcourt months back which had a SAY NO to 'homosexuality' and drugs, by acclaimed activist. An anti Gay country which hopes to remain so having activist amongst the futures of the nation is of course disturbing, and having these in the face of all of its harsh societal law calls for an urgent review of the plan of keeping Nigeria a No Gay country.
Truth is, no matter how hard we try to deny, lynching doesn't help matters, it's a loser fight. If all we have to stop the country from being like her colonizers is insults, and gruesome death, it's a lost battle. Maybe I should tell you why and it's because Christianity that had claimed over 3billion of the world population and still counting met such harsh ridicule and death punishment at her beginning stages, and instead of being swept underneath or a fierce pull away from the fight, more people came to see reasons why their entire life should end on a Jesus of Nazareth concept, and offered themselves, braving the shame of the day, ridicule and death which ranged from grinding them alive to being burnt on a stake, exploitation of property et al. Yet more and more where willing to give up themselves to this inhumane death until Rome fell to Christianity and today it's sweeping the world. Seeing the LGBT folks in Nigeria following the same path the Christians in Ceaser's day took, braving the shame, laying their lives, agreeing to be an outcast should only but raise fresh concern amongst Nigerian.
In the words of Myles Munroe, an idea cannot be killed, an idea will flourish in the face of fierce prohibition, because an idea is passed it amass more force than the strength of the executors can kill.
The reality of this statement cannot be snubbed as I am today a proud Christian who will also if need be lay down my life for the Jesus of Nazareth and won't for Africa. The consequence of the reality of this statement is suppose to arose fresh concern on the subject issue and the Nation.
The Christian faith is taught, as the day goes by millions and millions are invested into teaching the faith to all classes of the society, shocking but true, this was the strategy the LGBT is using in sweeping the world.
In 2014, when Nigerians were busy demonizing the practise, lynching mobbing and exploiting her members, the sect took to organizing seminars and campaign, using the teaching strategy, holding 'harmless' seminars in nations some of which had in turn embraced them. And in nations who would not open their doors to them, the literary sword was drawn, movies, literature, were released en masse, engaging not only the logic of the people but the emotions, and a battle won emotionally is a battle won in reality.
The results? Large number of identification with the sect in the country, an outright acceptance or a live and let live attitude. Going by this speculation I can boldly tell who ever has ears to hear that it won't take long, if it continues this way for our dear Nigeria to join the league.
After shouting God forbid, and it's an abomination, what other thing are you doing to save the kids? Large numbers now adopts the live and let live concept, which is slowly making Ghana metamorphose with the ex president taking completely away the jail sentence, even though it's not been declared legal.
If all Nigeria has to fight this is mob, lynching, shame, and ostracism, then a lose battle we are taking.
It's true, we don't and will never be one of those nations (sarcastic more of than reality) what are we doing to not join the league?
Let me hear your view..
